Adurape "Ayo" Osunjimi shares the stories that inspired him to pursue a career in medicine, experiences that shed light on the real-life financial barriers that impact access to care, and plans to mitigate these challenges by providing resources and compassionate care.

  • Hometown: Nigeria, and grew up in Lancaster, Texas (Dallas)

  • Medical Education: UT Southwestern Medical School

  • Undergraduate Education: UT Austin in Biology

  • Current Career Plan: Pursue internal medicine residency followed by a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine to become an intensivist.

  • Specialty Interest: Internal Medicine

  • I am most proud of being invited back to my former high school as a keynote speaker to address the rising senior class and their families, where I had the opportunity to motivate them to pursue their dreams and remain committed to serving their community.

  • You might be surprised to know that I love experimenting with food combinations, most of which somehow involve Nutella.

  • ElevateMeD is… dedicated to empowering the next generation of community-oriented physicians, one student at a time. Through their efforts, they are increasing trust in our healthcare system, helping to eradicate disparities, and ensuring that every member of our society receives compassionate, equitable care.
