Recap: Ignite Atlanta 2023 Scholarship Event
Celebrating FOUR years in the heart of Atlanta!

ElevateMeD’s return to Atlanta made for an enchanting evening as we celebrated our fourth anniversary at the mesmerizing Georgia Aquarium! This anniversary marked the milestone of over $1,000,000 awarded in scholarships and support to 50 medical students across the country. The partnerships with Emory School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine make Atlanta the city of greatest investment through ElevateMeD Scholars Program, with over 6 Scholars and over $73,000 in scholarships awarded.
ElevateMeD’s success is a testament to what can happen in four years when we join forces for the greater good! As ElevateMeD continues to forge an impact on the next generation of physician leaders, this year’s celebration was a clear snapshot into the future as college and medical students, as well as Atlanta’s top professionals, gathered in celebration of the endless possibilities.
The 2023 Ignite Atlanta event featured the following highlights:
Over $100,000 raised with over 140 guests in attendance
Welcome remarks from CEO and Founder Dr. Alyx Porter Umphrey as she shared the highlights of the organization’s origins and the accomplishments of the past four years
Ashley Harriot (Emory ‘24), and Onyinye Okonma (Morehouse ‘24) were both presented with $16,500 to be applied to their tuition for the 2023-2024 academic year. Checks were presented by ElevateMeD Treasurer Patrick Brooks and ElevateMeD Events Chair Dr. Jeshenna Watkins.
The first ElevateMeD Trailblazer Award was presented to Dr. Fatu Forna, followed by her inspiring remarks to use your own pen
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and the City of Atlanta shared congratulatory remarks for ElevateMeD’s impact over the past four years
Dr. Arrix Ryce, ElevateMeD Scholar and Emory School of Medicine Class of 2023 delivered a dynamic keynote address sharing the importance of seeing the bigger picture and how ElevateMeD’s impact has granted him opportunities along his medical school journey
