From Scholar to Physician Leader: Message from Abigail Solorio, MD

Abigail Solorio, M.D.
Dr. Abigail Solorio’s connection to ElevateMeD has continued well beyond her time in the Scholars Program. She has returned to share her journey at Explosion of a Dream, served as a keynote speaker, represented ElevateMeD through a television segment, and celebrated matching into her first-choice residency program in 2023.
Today, Dr. Solorio continues to give back as a mentor to an ElevateMeD Connect Scholar and will return this October to moderate a Scholars Program panel. Her continued involvement reflects the full-circle impact of the ElevateMeD community and the role Legacy physicians can play in supporting Scholars who follow behind them.

Message from Abigail Solorio, MD
“Since becoming an ElevateMeD Scholar, I’ve had the privilege of graduating from Georgetown University Family Medicine Residency in Washington, DC, where my training centered on community medicine and health equity. I was honored to be an AHEC Scholar during residency, which granted me the opportunity to work in El Salvador alongside local healthcare teams caring for underserved communities, an experience that strengthened my commitment to global health and delivering culturally responsive care.
Beyond clinical training, I served as Chief of Education for my residency program, advocating for resident education and wellness. As a member of the MedStar Health Diversity Council, I collaborated with residents across specialties to foster mentorship, strengthen connections, and help create a more inclusive training environment.
Today, I’ve come full circle by returning home to Arizona to practice Family Medicine. As a first-generation Latina physician, serving the community that shaped me is deeply personal and an incredible privilege. Every day is an opportunity to give back to the people and communities that inspired this journey.
