ElevateMeD Scholar: Aly Toure

Meet Aly Toure

ElevateMeD Scholar 2025-26

Aly Toure was shaped by his upbringing in Mali, where he witnessed family members struggle with treatable conditions due to limited healthcare infrastructure. After experiencing a health scare himself and receiving high-quality care, the differences in access to care became even more clear, strengthening his commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare.

  • Hometown: Born In Fort Worth, Texas / Raised in Bamako, Mali

  • Medical Education: Emory University School of Medicine

  • Undergraduate Education: Boston University in Biomedical Engineering

  • Current Career Plan: Become an orthopedic surgeon working at the intersection of global health, trauma care, and health equity. I plan to serve both urban underserved communities in the U.S. and support surgical capacity-building in low-resource settings. I hope to lead initiatives that improve access to musculoskeletal care and mentor the next generation of diverse physicians.

  • Specialty Interest: Orthopedic Surgery

  • I am most proud of the journey that brought me here—from growing up in Mali to pursuing medicine in the U.S., and now contributing to pursuing my Master's in Public Health in London. I’m especially proud of leading a surgical outreach trip to Guatemala and helping establish equity-focused initiatives for underrepresented students in medicine.

  • You might be surprised to know that that I’ve lived in six countries—France, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, and the United States—and in U.S. cities as diverse as Boston, Harrisonburg, Madison, and Atlanta. These experiences have made me highly adaptable and deeply culturally aware. I speak four languages and have learned to navigate and connect across cultures with ease. My background has shaped not only how I see the world, but also how I hope to practice medicine—with empathy, respect, and a deep understanding of the communities I serve.

  • ElevateMeD is… a lifeline and a launchpad. To me, ElevateMeD is a community of changemakers committed to transforming the future of medicine by investing in those who have historically been overlooked. It’s not just a scholarship—it’s mentorship, representation, and a powerful reminder that we belong in this field.
