Third Annual Scholars Summit featuring 3-Days of Leadership Development!
ElevateMeD hosted the third annual Scholars Summit during the Explosion of a Dream weekend on September 22-24th. This year’s summit was attended by 23 scholars from the 2023-2024 cohort and 2 Scholar Alumni. The summit featured a weekend of workshops and speakers designed to enhance the leadership and professional development skills of each scholar. This year's Scholars Summit was fully funded through sponsorships provided by Mayo Clinic, Arizona Community Foundation, Novocure, Bristol Myers Squibb, Love Tito’s and All Medical Personnel.
Welcome Reception
The Summit kicked off with a Welcome Reception featuring the Scholars pinning ceremony and curated remarks from the Breaking Barriers Award recipient Dr. Rachel Bond. A special scholarship of $10,000 was presented to Zeynoire Anderson from the Inspire Youth Enrichment Foundation.

Icebreaker
with Dr. Marissa Vasquez (ElevateMeD Program Chair)
Scholars engaged with one another in the Operations Icebreaker, where each scholar spent time getting comfortable with one-another by operating on Mr Potato Head. This activity reinforced invaluable lessons about the power of teamwork in the medical field.
Aligning Your Values and Your Time
with Dr. Lesley Williams (ElevateMeD Advisory Board)
In this session, Scholars were challenged to get the foundation of what will sustain their careers in medicine- having a clear set of values. Dr. Williams shared openly about her journey to becoming a board certified Family Medicine physician and Eating Disorder Specialist and the power of having strong values.
STORYTELLING
with Doug Stevenson
Since 2021, every ElevateMeD Scholar has benefited from learning the Story Theatre Method with Doug Stevenson! In this session, students receive live feedback in preparation for their residency interviews and shaping their personal statements.
Healthcare Financial Literacy
with Allison Viramontes (ElevateMeD Advisory Board)
ElevateMeD’s M4 Scholars gained important understanding of the world of healthcare finances with Allison Viramontes to best prepare them in understanding pay structures, healthcare insurance policies, and more!
Financial Literacy Session
with Accredited Investors Wealth Management
To enhance the Scholars’ personal finance perspective, Accredited Investors Wealth Management shared three intimate sessions discussing credit management, creating sustainable spending and saving habits, and investing.
Mitigating Burnout
with Keith Jones and Dr. Fiona Craig
As Scholars endeavor on a career path as healers, this session with Keith Jones and Dr. Fiona Craig provided thoughtful dialogue about how they can prepare for successful, healthy careers in medicine as underrepresented physicians of color.
Lunch and Learn

Influential Interactions Improv workshop

In shaping rounded Scholars who feel prepared for various scenarios, The Outcasters provided an engaging improv class where Scholars enjoyed techniques to think and respond quickly with one another.
Crucial Conversations
with Dr. Akanksha Sharma (ElevateMeD Advisory Board) and Dr. Tiffany Hardaway (ElevateMeD Scholarship Chair)
Led by Dr. Marrisa Vasquez, this panel discussion allowed Scholars to learn how to navigate challenging conversations along their journey through residency, as an attending, and as an entrepreneur.
Brand Blueprint

In creating personal brand messages, Wells David provided Scholars with the Brand Blueprint that helps to provide clarity, conviction, consistency, and connection.
Explosion of A Dream
Scholars attended the fifth annual Explosion of a Dream scholarship event! Scholar presenters included Dr. Aaron Bia, Evans Osuji, Ewoma Ogbaudu, and Dr. Abigail Solorio. Nevill Duncan and Leonida Radford were presented with the Bayless Commitment to Mental Health Scholarship.
