Meet the Co-Founders of ElevateMeD, Inc! Dr. Alyx Porter Umphrey, a graduate of Spelman College and Temple University, has served as a neuro-oncologist at Mayo Clinic in Arizona since 2008. Dr. Gregory L. Umphrey, a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles and Howard University College of Medicine, is a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physician at Barrow Spine. While attending a residency at Mayo Clinic, the couple met and later married with nearly $500,000 in combined medical school debts. After paying off their debts in eight years, they shared the vision to elevate medicine to an ideal where the physician workforce represents the communities served. In 2019, ElevateMeD was founded and is led by an incredible Board of Directors. The organization has provided support to over 30 underrepresented medical students from across the country, awarding nearly $500,000 in scholarships and support. Residing in Scottsdale Arizona, they have dedicated themselves to a life of service and are the proud parents of a son (Rylan, 13), daughter (Makena, 11), and Golden Retriever - Coton de Tuléar mix (Sunset Phoenix, 2).
