Dear ElevateMeD Scholars

Dear ElevateMeD Scholars…
video submission

Our students are training to become physicians in the midst of dueling pandemics.
Support for their career choice and the need for their success is so important.

We ask that you record a horizontal/landscape video (15-30 seconds)
sharing words of encouragement/congratulations to our students that we can include in our
Virtual Scholarship Fundraiser event on October 3rd.

Thank you for supporting the ElevateMeD mission as we endeavor to reduce health disparities and change the face of philanthropy.
If you would like to endorse our cause further, please visit elevatemed.org/endorsement.

Ways to approach your video of support

  • Words of encouragement for our Scholars pursuing medicine in the midst of dueling pandemics

  • Congratulations to our inaugural Scholars cohort

Tips for Recording

  • VIDEO FORMAT/SETUP: FILM YOUR RECORDING HORIZONTAL/LANDSCAPE
Whether recording from a laptop, desktop or mobile device so that your camera angle is level to the floor and horizontal. Position yourself close to the screen so that we can see from the top of your head to your upper torso only. This also ensures that we can hear you clearly by having you positioned closer to the microphone of your device.

  • CLEAR BACKGROUND/WORKSPACE:
Make sure that your area that is in camera view is clear from any sensitive information, is clear and neat, and without any brand labels present that could present potential trademark issues.

  • GOOD LIGHTING:
Natural daylight is best. If you have the option to be in an area with daylight place your video setup there for this recording. If you do not have access to record with daylight, make sure that there is enough available light to see you clearly.

  • REMOVE BACKGROUND NOISE:
Select a quiet area that is free from background noise.

Talking Points

Who Are We?

  • Founded in 2019, ElevateMeD is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to elevating medicine by providing scholarships, mentoring, and support to medical students from African-American/Black, Latinx, and Native American backgrounds.

  • Founded by Dr. Alyx Porter Umphrey and Dr. Gregory Umphrey, with a dedicated and diverse board of directors from across the country.

  • We are based in Scottsdale, Arizona with a national presence.

What We Do?

  • We are a national organization poised to make significant strides in key areas impacting medical students from targeted backgrounds.

  • We are a vehicle for substantive lasting change.

  • We are the SOLUTION!

Why Do We Do It?

  • COST IS THE TOP REASON QUALIFIED STUDENTS FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS REPORTED NOT ENROLLING IN MEDICAL SCHOOL (AMA).
The cost of medical education in the United States has become prohibitive, distracting bright students from seeking a career in medicine.

  • WE NEED A MULTIFACETED APPROACH.
The ElevateMeD Scholars program will provide significant financial assistance to medical students while providing them access to mentorship, leadership training, and financial management education.

  • HEALTH DISPARITIES CONTINUE TO SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACT OUR WORLD
We aim to increase physician workforce diversity and improve cultural competence among physicians to reduce health disparities.

What We’ve Accomplished!

  • Thanks to the power of the Collective, in our first year we raised over $200,000.

  • We’ve partnered with 10 medical schools across the country and selected our first inaugural cohort of ElevateMeD Scholars.

  • Our inaugural cohort of Scholars represent the next generation of world leaders, driven to make an impact in healthcare.
