ElevateMeD School FAQs

2020 ElevateMeD Scholars. The ElevateMeD Scholars program is a multifaceted program designed to develop the next generation of physician leaders.  In the inaugural year, ElevateMeD will competitively award $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 each year) to the ten most talented medical students from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine.

Program Questions

  • What does the elevatemed scholars program include?

Currently, the ElevateMeD Scholars Program provides recipients with a tuition-based scholarship. In addition to the scholarship funds, we provide 1-1 mentorship, leadership development, and financial literacy training. Annually, we host a Scholars Summit where our Scholars join us for workshops tailored toward their professional development. (all expenses paid)

  • What commitment IS required for ElevateMed Alumni Scholars?

No formal commitment is required.  We hope that they will be future philanthropists with their time and resources.  They are invited to continue to utilize ElevateMeD programming, stay in touch with their mentor, become a junior-mentor and attend events.

Scholarship Questions

  • How do you classify “full scholarship”?

    100% of tuition is covered.

  • Is the financial scholarship paid directly to the student?

Yes, we will be awarding the scholarship directly to the student. A completed Form W-9 is required from them prior to disbursement. In addition, they may be required to submit proof of full-time enrollment in an accredited U.S. medical school for the 2025–26 academic year. ElevateMeD reserves the right to request additional documentation at any time for administrative or compliance purposes. Failure to provide required or requested documentation may result in a delay in disbursement. *The scholarship is intended to support the Scholars continued education as a full-time medical student. In order to maintain the scholarship's non-taxable status, we strongly recommend that they use these funds exclusively for qualified educational expenses, as defined by the IRS under IRC §117. These include:

    • Tuition and mandatory enrollment fees

    • Books, supplies, and equipment required for your coursework

*If they choose to use any portion of the funds for non-qualified expenses (including but not limited to housing, meals, travel, health insurance, or residency application and interview costs), the award may be considered taxable income and reportable to the IRS. To comply with IRS requirements, all scholarship recipients must submit a completed Form W-9 before funds can be disbursed. ElevateMeD will then issue a Form 1099-MISC for the full scholarship amount.

  • What is the school scholarship match?

Some schools have decided to match our scholarships in the past for a student. It is NOT a requirement for participant schools.

Nomination & Application Questions

  • What information can I provide to prospective students?

We encourage nominees and prospects to learn more information about our organization by visiting our website, watching our brand video, and following us on social media @elevatemedinc.

  • For Schools who have gone through the nomination process, how do you decide who to nominate when you have a very large student body?

OSU, Howard and NSU all shared their experiences and were very grateful for the partnership.  Each has some sort of committee in place or created a committee consisting of some combination of Deans, Diversity Department, Admissions and Financial Aid colleagues.  This committee then ranks potential students (in good standing) and determines which students are interested in applying/participating.

  • How are applications reviewed for selection?

Each year we set a number of Scholars who we can support through the Scholars Program. Once all applications have been received from nominees, a scholarship committee reviews those applications, makes the final selections, and then our Board approves the final cohort.
