How do students make it through without support?

Growing up, I was surrounded by doctors of color.  My parents are dentists, my aunt is a physician. I thought this was normal until I married a dentist and went to a conference with her.  As I looked around, I noticed that I didn’t see the diversity that I thought existed. Then my sister applied to medical school. Through witnessing her experiences, I was able to see first hand the limited financial support available for medical students.  I was able to see how my sister benefited from having family members who were in the medical field serve as support and as mentors for her. I started wondering how students who have less support than what we have in my family, make it through. Living through that experience with her, made me want to work with ElevateMeD based on my profound appreciation for what we are doing.

ElevateMeD exists to create opportunities for financial support, mentorship, and leadership development for the next generation of physicians of color.  As a CPA, I was even more drawn to the organization due to our commitment to ensuring that our scholars are financially educationally equipped and prepared to navigate through their medical school matriculation fully informed.

Please join me in my support of ElevateMeD as we educate physicians in training on how to manage their money responsibly and encourage them to become future donors.
