Dr. Andrew K. Sanderson, II, MD, MPH, FASGE is currently a gastroenterologist in private practice. He previously served as Medical Officer in the Office of Minority Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where he led the Men’s Health and National CLAS Standards Implementation teams. Prior to this position, Dr. Sanderson participated in the Commonwealth Fund Mongan Fellowship in Minority Health Policy and was a research fellow at Harvard Medical School. Prior to his appointment as a Commonwealth Fellow, Dr. Sanderson served as Associate Professor of Medicine, Associate Program Director, and Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at Howard University.

Dr. Sanderson graduated from Morehouse College with honors and subsequently received his medical education at Howard University College of Medicine. He completed a Master’s Degree at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health with a concentration on health policy and management. Following an Internal Medicine Residency at Temple University and GI Fellowship at Charles Drew University, Dr. Sanderson completed advanced endoscopic training at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He has been honored for teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows. As a clinical investigator his research has been published more than a dozen times in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Sanderson lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife and four children and enjoys time spent with family, running, and sailing.
