Johanny Lopez Dominguez is a second-year medical student at Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Arizona. She is also pursuing a masters in the Science of Health Care Delivery program at Arizona State University. Additionally, she is the founder of the Latino Medical Student Association at Mayo Clinic, which increases awareness of Latino health issues and advocates for increasing diversity in medicine. While at Mayo she also launched and coordinated a Journal Club Selective with the goal of exposing medical students to evidence- based medicine early in their training while also challenging them to critically appraise Literature.

Born in the Dominican Republic, Johanny came to the United States at the age of 11. She grew up with a single mother and her sister in a low resource community. Johanny received a scholarship to attend Georgetown University which allowed her to work towards her dream of becoming a doctor. The opportunities she has received continue to fill her her with a passion for helping other students achieve academically and for helping underserved communities have access to healthcare. Medicine is the perfect bridge between Johanny’s inquisitive spirit and her desire to help communities in need.

Johanny’s vision is a career that allows her serve and improve health care access in low-income and immigrant communities. She is passionate about increasing diversity and representation in medicine.
